RYSTROLOGY
As practiced by Miss Clara, TV/radio psychic and Attuned Priestess of the Mistic Arts

A Rystrological forecast, be it personality based on moment of birth or the influences highest on any given day, consists of four beståndsdel (ingredients/facets/elements) that comprise a person or a situation. They comprise the four general monster feeding types, which Rystrologers believe to be the four essential parts of a living human being:

Flesh ⚜️ Fluid ⚜️ Soul ⚜️ Spark

The particulars of each are detailed below.

The Flesh Beståndsdel ⚜️ What forms me?

This beståndsdel governs your priorities and passions, the grounds upon which the rest of your personality is built. It also dictates what aspect of your physical condition will most greatly impact your life, as well as which weather is most likely to affect your fortunes.

The Flesh beståndsdel is broken up into nine affiliations. Each affiliation is named after one of the nine major physical traits of Ryslig monsters, who are listed as "guardian monsters". A Ryslig native is likely to have fateful encounters, for good or ill, with members of their guardian monster species.

You determine the Flesh affiliation of a particular day (date of birth or proposed date to do something) via numerology. Take all of the numbers in the date and add them together:

DD + MM + YYY = ABCD

A+B+C+D until you get a single digit.

Note – Natal Rystrology does not apply to monsters born on other worlds. They may calculate their affiliation for entertainment, but they were not born on Ryslig peninsula and therefore were not subject to the influence of Rystrology in the moment of said birth.

1) Fur (guardian monsters: werewolf, werebear, pooka)
⚜️ Fur people are loyal, protective, and warmhearted, but can have trouble opening up emotionally to those outside of their own circle. While they'll talk to just about anybody, you're either in their group or you're not, and they take betrayal especially hard.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their reflexes! Fur people go with their guts and while this sometimes comes in handy, sometimes they act too quickly – or not quickly enough, if they're absorbed in something else.
⚜️ Fur people are most likely to have a good day if it's snowing outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's raining.
⚜️ Fur days are good days to be social.

2) Feather (harpy, nephilim)
⚜️ Feather people are quick-witted and always in a hurry! They delight in verbal sparring and, to them, too many words are never enough. Although they may sometimes skim the surface of topics, they have boundless curiosity and value being the first to know or try things. They can be gossips.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their swiftness. Feather people might be fleet of foot but if they don't learn to control that, they'll hurt themselves or others.
⚜️ Feather people are most likely to have a good day if it's windy outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's a blizzard.
⚜️ Feather days are good days to start something new.

3) Sting (arachne, naga, manticore)
⚜️ Sting people are acerbic and contemplative. As opposed to Feathers, who value swiftness of thought and rhetoric – the trappings of cleverness – Sting people want to dig down in an issue and study the meat. Their incisive approach to interacting with people can be off-putting, but their insight is valuable. They have to be careful not to get petty when riled.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their hand-eye coordination, or other awareness of themselves in physical space. Sting people can have excellent spacial awareness....or they can space out and run into stuff.
⚜️ Sting people are most likely to have a good day if it's hailing outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's humid.
⚜️ Sting days are good days for deep thought.

4) Flash (demon, goblin)
⚜️ Flash people are hungry for life! They're the ones for whom too much is never enough. They want with a fierceness that can make them in danger of failing to see the forest for the trees (if what they want is intangible) or hedonism (if the opposite).
⚜️ They have to be careful about ailments affecting the appetite. Flash people may over- or under-eat, lacking moderation no matter which side of the scale they tip.
⚜️ Flash people are most likely to have a good day if it's sunny outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's windy.
⚜️ Flash days are good days to indulge.

5) Root (troll, nymph)
⚜️ Root people are stubborn and seem implacable. Their priorities may be at odds with society's, which can lead to either disconnecting from others or social nervousness. Indeed, they live much of life thinking about things in terms no one else does, marching to the beat of their own inexorable drummer. You cannot expect a Root to blend in, but you can expect them to contribute a big-picture perspective.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their stamina. Root people can endure a lot so they may force themselves without realizing it. Or they might have no stamina at all.
⚜️ Root people are most likely to have a good day if it's raining outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's overcast.
⚜️ Root days are good days to stay the course.

6) Shadow (shade, vampire, lich)
⚜️ Shadow people are, frankly, goths – in spirit if not aesthetic. They tend to have morbid senses of humor and are prone to pessimism, and tend to be suspicious. Sometimes this is of other's motives and sometimes this is second-guessing themselves. But their comfort with the darker elements of life means that when the shit hits the fan they tend to be reliable – this is their territory. Edgelords. The lot of them.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their physical constitution! They are prone to getting sick, or at least to not taking precautions to prevent illness.
⚜️ Shadow people are most likely to have a good day if it's overcast outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's sunny.
⚜️ Shadow days are good days to do things in secret.

7) Scale (mer, gargoyle)
⚜️ Scale people are prideful and driven. They have big ambitions and the plan to back it up. They're practical and cunning – bean counters. Yet once they achieve their goal, they coil around it and stagnate. They are likely to let common sense or probability keep them from taking new risks once they've gained something.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their dexterity! Scale people are really limber, but also most likely to have major issues if their suppleness is allowed to stagnate. Back problems ahoy, etc.
⚜️ Scale people are most likely to have a good day if it's humid outside. They're most likely to have a bad day if it's snowing.
⚜️ Scale days are good days to make, or enact, a plan.

8) Hoof (minotaur, waldgeist, kelpie)
⚜️ Hoof people are clumsy. They feel big feels** and struggle with expressing them. This can lead to them behaving passively if they fear their own awkward trampling, or overcorrecting and bludgeoning their way through all social situations. In spite of their lack of grace, they make earnest and devoted friends.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their muscles. They have the potential to be extremely physically strong, and their spirits will also atrophy if they don't exercise in ways that help them bulk up.
⚜️ Hoof people are most likely to have a good day if it's blizzarding outside! They're most likely to have a bad day if it's storming.
⚜️ Hoof days are good days for self-reflection.

9) Shimmer (slime, faerie, simulacrum)
⚜️ Shimmer people are oddballs, but in a different way from Roots. Shimmers have an aura of mysteriousness and slipperiness. Their mercurial nature makes them hard to pin down. On the other hand, because they're unused to people making it past the surface, they may have issues setting boundaries once someone has taken the plunge, and give everything to the other person.
⚜️ They have to be careful about their libido. Shimmer people need to make sure being horny on main doesn't get them into trouble – or that they don't end up super-repressed.
⚜️ Shimmer people are most likely to have a good day if it's storming outside. They're most likely to have a bad day if it's hailing.
⚜️ Shimmer days are good days to go with the flow.

The weather effects described in the Flesh and Soul beståndsdel (see below) are cumulative, as are the effects of multiple simultaneous weather patterns. On a sunny, blustery day, both Flash and Feather people will meet with success in their endeavors.

The Fluid Beståndsdel ⚜️ What fills me?

This beståndsdel governs your default temperament, the outlook you return to again and again. Forecasts seeking to determine an optimal future date should pay close attention to this beståndsdel, as it subtly influences everyone's default mood.

To calculate the Fluid beståndsdel, you ask: is the Fog in (capital-F Fog, the twice-monthly occurrence) on the day of my forecast? A Fog day is said to have Fog polarity and a day without Fog is said to have Free polarity.

1) Free polarity
⚜️ A moment or person with Free polarity will manifest their Flesh affiliation (and other influences) in obvious and straightforward ways. These are days when foresight comes easily and people can grasp the "big picture".
⚜️ Free polarity people tend to be open books, and should take care not to fall afoul of those who would manipulate them in their predictability.
⚜️ Choose a Free polarity day for playing to your strengths, outdoor work, or getting together with family.

2) Fog polarity
⚜️ A moment or person with Fog polarity may demonstrate traits that seem the opposite of their Flesh affiliation, but there are subtler forces at work - a Root, for example, who navigates social situations with aplomb yet secretly resents them. These are days of uncertainty and the potential for obsession.
⚜️ Fog polarity people tend to guard their true selves, and should take care not to alienate themselves from others too much, either by pulling away from them or going on the offensive.
⚜️ Choose a Fog polarity day for tasks you dislike, indoor work, or solitary pursuits.

While Free polarity days may seem "positive" and Fog polarity days may seem "negative", any number of circumstances might be better-served by Fog attributes than Free, especially when combined with the Soul beståndsdel (below). For example, a Free sunny day may cause you to feel overconfident. If you're seeking a confrontation – parlaying with a monster who has been threatening your family, etc - a hailing Fog day may give you the extra gumption you need to stand up to your opponent.  

Also of note: since the Fog schedule tends to be regular, Rystrologers incorporate this beståndsdel into their forecasts for future dates. The recent rise in power of the Fourth God, however, has complicated the calendar, generating Fog-free days where none should be. For this reason, few Rystrologers worship the Fourth God.

The Soul Beståndsdel ⚜️ What shapes me?

This beståndsdel notes which emotions are likely to be heightened by the weather's arcane influence upon Ryslig. Those born during certain weather patterns are most likely to default to those emotions, or to feel them more strongly when they occur. Matching the appropriate weather to the emotions required to succeed at a task, or that you wish for yourself/others to experience during that task, can lead that task to desired outcomes.

Since the weather changes rapidly, knowing the time of day is essential for determining this beståndsdel in hindsight. The time in and of itself is no longer thought to possess any particular energy now that the Sun and Moon gods are dormant, but some acolytes within both churches disagree. Consult works such as "The Hovering Orbs" or "A Long Day's Journey Into Fog" for this perspective.

1) Snow
⚜️ Peace. Serenity and silence, words passing unspoken; a person with more influence than they appear to wield.

2) Wind
⚜️ Momentum. Sudden good fortune (a "windfall"), or being "swept up" in circumstances; a person who tends to make serendipitous discoveries.

3) Hail
⚜️ Intensity. A barrage of circumstances; relentless force; a person who gets their way at all costs.

4) Sun
⚜️ Joy. High spirits and smooth sailing, ease of optimism; a person who looks on the bright side of life.

5) Rain
⚜️ Melancholy. A turn to the wistful and romantic; noticing small details; a person with a poetic heart.

6) Overcast
⚜️ Skepticism. Tempered emotions, critical thinking; second-guessing decisions made in haste; a person who sets their expectations low.

7) Humid
⚜️ Malaise. Low energy and increased inertia; time passing slowly; a person with infectious listlessness.

8) Blizzard
⚜️ Distance. A sense of disdain ("freezing others out"); setting boundaries; a person who knows how to guard their heart.

9) Storm
⚜️ Revelation. Bursts of insight or "connecting the dots"; following one's instincts; a person who jumps to conclusions.

Note that the nine categories here do correspond to the nine affiliations of the Flesh beståndsdel. Days where the Flesh and Soul beståndsdel align are known as "bodied" days - as in, a snowy Fur day is "embodying Fur", and all effects of both beståndsdelarna are heightened.

The Spark Beståndsdel ⚜️ What spurs me?

This beståndsdel reveals the underlying force or energy behind a person or day - are they driven forward or more given to standing still? It is calculated on a sliding scale, with the day every other month in which monsters arrive in Ryslig used as the turning point.

Throughout the two-month cycle, the potential energy in the atmosphere builds, until manifesting itself on the 4th of an "arrival" month with the introduction of new future monsters from the Sea of Stars. Thus, the energy charge of a day contains the greatest potential for taking initiative on the 4th of an arrival month and the least on the 3rd of a non-arrival month. (New monsters beginning their changes after the 4th of a non-arrival month is a surefire sign the potential energy in the air is building.)

Although the Spark beståndsdel is relative, one can refer to the days from the 4th of a non-arrival month to the 4th of an arrival month as "Stars" days, and 5th of an arrival month to the 3rd of a non-arrival month to be "Soil" days. This frequently corresponds to the same months on a calendar each year, but given the occasional irregularity of arrivals to Ryslig, Rystrologers choose not to label the named months themselves.

The energies of Stars and Soil days are detailed below.

1) Stars
⚜️ Active energy. These are the people who are most likely to have an idea, rally people behind a cause, or thrive in an environment of change and upheaval.
⚜️ Star days are days of invention and innovation, of brainstorming and beginnings. The best way to start something is to jump forward.

2) Soil
⚜️ Stagnant energy. These are the people who are most likely to finish a task, consider the details, or thrive in an environment of repetition and peace.
⚜️ Soil days are days for keeping one's head down and plodding forward without being discouraged, or for appreciating what one already has. Small steps help you enjoy the flowers.

ASSEMBLING YOUR RYSTROLOGICAL FORECAST

For natal Rystrological forecasts (sometimes referred to as "hindcasts"), determine the four beståndsdelarna of the target person. Past meteorological data has been compiled into a series of books called "almurknacs" for beginners to use, though professionals create their own almurknacs by careful recording of the weather patterns, including Fog and arrival of new monsters-to-be, each day since their taking up the craft.

When you combine the beståndsdelarna results, you will receive a multifaceted look at the target's core mindset, temperament, values, and potential. Hindcasts can also be used to predict the outcome of potential love matches; please see Miss Clara's "Hearts Amid the Haze" for further information.

Future forecasts are best left to professional Rystrologers, as they have access to a variety of methods to determine upcoming weather. Amateurs may hone their senses by using the weather on TV or the radio, or seek one of the many additional texts on divining the moods of the Fog through changes in barometric pressure, wind, etc.

Note that the further in advance you attempt to cast, the more likely the Soul beståndsdel will require amending. Provide frequent modifications to your clients, or offer them several dates so they can act on whichever features the appropriate weather.
